Will You Leave Your Kingdom to a Heretic?

Remember that one time when Dave stared at the blank screen for what felt like forever, with nothing, really, to say? Remember? Yeah, that was a long time ago... That never happens to Dave anymore. He's so over that. He discovered that the way to overcome that particular mental hiccup was to just start typing and see if it went anywhere...

Hmmm.... perhaps we are asking the wrong questions...

Well, guess I'll start with the Gutbuster of the Day, from This Is Why You're Fat...

The Flapjack Fiasco
From bottom to top: Pancake, cookie dough, pancake, peanut butter & jelly, pancake, chocolate and bananas, pancake, caramel, Oreos, marshmallow, sprinkles, M&M's, pancake, caramel buttercream frosting garnished with Trix cereal. Oh, what's another ten pounds....

Now, that one strikes me more as an attempt at something creative rather than something someone would actually eat. Still, you never know... perhaps the creator of that monstrosity actually had a bite or two... Still, it gives me an awe-laced stomach ache just contemplating it. Is it breakfast or dessert? Or both? It was awful... a giant leech got me...

A quick post script on yesterday's honoring of Brock Lesnar. He defeated Frank Mir yesterday in their rematch for the UFC Heavyweight belt. Lesnar's only loss so far in his MMA career was to Mir last year, in his second ever UFC fight, so this was sweet revenge for Lesnar... apparently too sweet. He responded to the fans booing him by flipping them off and taunting them after the match, which only poured gasoline on the general feeling of distaste for him by the fans at large. He apologized for it in a post-match press meeting, but I didn't think it was necessary, really. I still like the guy. He was mercilessly run down by everyone as the rematch approached, and Frank Mir was talking smack all the way up to the fight, so it had to feel good for him to stick it to everyone by dominating Mir so thoroughly. Everyone mocks Lesnar because of his connection to WWE wrestling, but he's proving to be the dominant force he says he is, by handling every top heavyweight they seem to be throwing at him. Kudos to Brock.

Nobody is dragged into a street fight. Here's a pic of Mir after the fight (post-pummeling), with Brock (on the right) having a polite word with him...

"That's right! That's what you get! Look at you, ship all banged up! Who's the man! Who's the man!!!"

"I'm not hurt at all! Didn't you know? They can only kill me with a golden bullet."

Guess I'll segue into Todayve in History: July 13
----------------------------------------------------
- July 13, 1832: The source of the Mississippi River is discovered by Henry Schoolcraft. (The source was a running faucet in Minnesota...)

- July 13, 1836: The first numbered US Patent was issued, for locomotive wheels. (Boy, I guess you picked the wrong train.)

- July 13, 1865: PT Barnum's museum burns down. (There's an arsonist born every minute.)

- July 13, 1934: Babe Ruth hits homerun #700 against Detroit. (He celebrated by getting on the PA system and belching the lyrics to "Take Me Out to the Ballgame")

Celebrating birthdays on July 13 are: Julius Caesar (100 BC), Patrick Stewart (1940), Harrison Ford (1942) and Cheech Marin (1946). (Actually, also having birthdays are Steve-O and Phil Margera, but only Dave-O would know who they are, so I'll let that go...)

I told Grace I'd post something today to honor Bill Cosby's birthday. Was going through some clips of his early TV days, and found some cool clips, but nothing that really knocked me over. So for now, I'm going to post a classic routine from his seminal stand-up movie Himself, and it is the "Little Jeffrey" bit.

If my memory for ancient Roman trivia is accurate, I believe Julius Caesar renamed the month he was born in after himself, which is where we get the name "July" from. When his son (?) Augustus became Caesar, not to be outdone, he had the following month renamed after himself (August) and decreed that it also have 31 days, so his father's month would not be longer than his. Be careful who you insult, old king. Man, if I ever became Caesar, I'd name a month after myself as well. Davember, I guess...

Well, I'm really all over the place today... boring day, really. I mean, the usual Sunday, nothing out of the ordinary at all. Church in the morning, a mall run at lunch time, farting around on the computer until 5ish, off to church again for evening service, home afterwards, and here I am. That about sums it up. Mixed opinions about my buzzed head from the folks at church. Meh, I expected as much. Doesn't sway me much either way, really.

Got some more tweaks to make to the website I built for Piranha last week. I don't really know how to do what they want, but I'm hoping I can make my way through it successfully. It's kind of important. Other than that, this week will be another predominantly rug shop week, which is fine. No end of things to do in that realm.

Guess I'll call it a day. Sorry for the mediocre post tonight. Guess my heart's not in it as much as it could be. Not for lack of want on my part, though. Perhaps something more interesting will happen tomorrow.

Until tomorrow, remember, the medicine cabinet is now the Brundle Museum of Natural History.

Great photo, Dave! Where'd you get it from?

See, I'd actually try a piece of that Flapjack Fiasco! My guess is it's some weird birthday cake, and you can't turn down a piece of birthday cake. Right?

Ugh, that Mir's a messy guy! Ketchup everywhere! ;)

*lol* Davember is a cool month name. Would you have been Davius Ceasar?
