What Does an Actor Want with a Conscience Anyway?

"Bringing the pain" or "Pinging the brain," which one?

Good afternoon! We're gonna have a great jump today!

Yes, I did it. I buzzed all my hair off. Actually, wifey helped me, so it became an "us" thing instead of a "me" thing, which was probably better. I wanted to go all the way to the skin, but wifey talked me into the lowest buzzer setting. So I have peach fuzz, which I have mixed feelings about. I guess it'll work. Honestly? Not as big a shocker as I was sort of hoping for it to be. No biggie, really. I bet you want to see a picture? Well, I'll post one, but it will be at the very end of this thread. Oh, sure, you could cheat and scroll all the way down there right now... or you could be disciplined and read my disjointed ramblings first...

So, yeah, not as big a change as I'd hoped, really. That means one thing... I have to shave off my eye brows also...

Went on a walk with wifey tonight. We had a loooong talk and got some things out on the table. Talked about some sensitive (as in easily hurt, not as in embarrassing) issues and I think it was very productive. I kind of went into the conversation thinking this was a make or break point for us. At this moment, I think we're in the "make" camp. Honestly, I don't think being a grown up should be this hard. But it is what it is. Perhaps years from know, when we're much stronger as both individuals and a couple, we'll look back on this time period as the bottom, and be thankful we made it through to see the "for better" years. That is my sincere hope. We are talking about the greater good!

Greater good? I am your wife! I'm the greatest good you are ever gonna get!

Watched a terrific hour-long documentary today on Netflix Instant Watch about the early years of Monty Python's Flying Circus. They're so funny, I remember watching them growing up. Great stuff. They had absolutely no hope whatsoever that their comedy would work in America. Well, compared to what passed for comedy on TV in the US in the 60's, I could see why they'd think that. Glad they tried it anyway.

Here's the Silly Olympics bit, just to give us a good chuckle. Respect the classics, man!

Well, I thought it was funny anyway....

OMG, you have GOT to see this hamburger...

OK, get this: the burger patty is made of ground rib eye, sirloin and prime rib. It has Havarti cheese, 7 strips of maple bacon, sauteed onions and smoked pepper mayo. I think I would officially pay any price to have one of those. I wonder where they are sold? I would plan a vacation around getting one of those, that's for sure.

Got a documentary on the history of the sword from Netflix today in the mail. It's a brand new release called Reclaiming the Blade, and it sounded awesome. I haven't watched it yet - I'll let you all know how it is, since you're all military history buffs like me, I'm sure. I'm pretty sure rule #1 is "stick them with the pointy end", but I won't know for sure until I watch it. The bummer is, it also released on Watch Instantly, which means I wasted a DVD queue slot on it. No need to get the physical disc when I could have streamed it directly on the web. Well, maybe it will have some cool extras on it. They don't show any extras on Watch Instantly...

I can't say from experience, obviously, but I think if I had a choice between getting shot and getting run through with a sword, I'd take the bullet. Of course, it would also depend on where I was shot/run through. A .45 round in the head would suck for sure, as would a .50 cal sniper round anywhere on the body. Reminds me of that scene in The Jackal where Bruce Willis was testing out that remote-controlled high-caliber rifle that Jack Black's character built for him... if you've seen the film, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, you probably don't want me to describe it...

Saw an awesome new book that's coming out soon, called Looking for Calvin and Hobbes, all about the creation - and the creator - of my favorite all-time comic strip. I know, C&H is everybody's favorite strip, sorry. I'd like to be more original, but there it is. A close second is Bloom County... is that fringe enough for you all? Anyway, it profiles the reclusive creator of the strip, Bill Watterson, and analyzes the strip from it's origins to it's completion in 1995, and the subsequent disappearance of Watterson from public life, like completely. He just vanished into seclusion. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the book - set for release October 1. Consider it pre-ordered!

As for Bloom County, with all the nonsense about Michael Jackson's death all over the place, it made me remember a series of strips in Bloom County many years ago. I'm going to go hunt them down and post them here for you all to chuckle at. Cuz Lord knows, we could all use a good chuckle now and then. When I scan them tonight, I'll edit them in here.

Speaking of needing a good chuckle, fine, I'll post a pic with my newly-buzzed head. I may go shorter...

So, who's the real Buzz?

Aw, poor guy. I understand. It's not easy being banished.

Pretty mellow post tonight, sorry. It's been an intense, serious day. Not feeling particularly nutty. Maybe tomorrow. Until tomorrow, remember, I have been scouting for bugs with your exact talents!

Mighty mellow movies tonight, Dave! :)

* Title is from Pinocchio
* "We're gonna have a great jump today!" is from Finding Nemo
* "Greater good? I am your wife! I'm the greatest good you are ever gonna get!" is from The Incredibles

I'm glad things are looking up for you today. Walks and talks can be great things...I think it's partly the change of scenery.

*L* Monty Python's always been somewhat popular in SA. Actually a lot of British stuff is...not sure if it's the whole previous colony thing, or the USA not wanting to supply SA with TV shows back in the day.

I'd plan a vacation around that burger too...yummy!

Ahh...I do miss Calvin and Hobbes. I think if I live in a snow-rich area, I'll make those cool snow-scenes he used to! :D

Oohhh...you're buzzed, Dave! Going to have a really cool head. Unless you bake it in the sun. Come to think of it, you can't really win, can you? If it's hot and you leave your cap off, your head bakes; if you put your cap on, you don't lose all the heat you want to. Oh well...best of luck! ;)

15 points for Havah. Yeah, I went with the Pixar/Disney theme tonight with the quotes. I'm sure they're all easy to spot.

I should go back through all of July's posts so far and tally up all the quotes no one identified. Those points are supposed to be mine - I get 3 points each.

Even though my hair's never been this short, I really wanted it all off. I might buzz the last 1/4 inch down to the quick tomorrow, who knows...

Do that and you'll probably win! *LOL*

I cut my hair short once...for a girl anyway. It took an eon to get long again, and I'm keeping it that way. btw...shaving your head helps your hair grow back thicker! :D

I know, I was kind of bummed. I was hoping for a big change. I guess I'll have to get that full-face tattoo after all...

5 points for Bob.

Quote Time!
It's not easy being banished - Wizard of Oz
So, who's the real Buzz? - Toy Story 2

David Wagner said...

Hmm... well, one out of 2 ain't bad... 5 points for Abbie. Sorry, the "banished" guess is incorrect...

Glad you liked my eyes... you can have them when I'm done with them, if you want... I'll just pop 'em out and roll them across the floor to you...

you didn't quote any oldies like the ones i grew up with such as aladdin, the lion king, beauty and the beast, sleeping beauty (wait, who quotes that?!), the little mermaid

David Wagner said...

5 points for Abbie, 3 Sympathy Points for Grace! Hey, we Calvin & Hobbes fans need to stick together...

Respect the classics, man! -cars

thanks for the sympathy points

do you know that my mom always quotes princess diaries, the part where she says good bye trolly people. it's hilarious to hear my mom say it

grace said...

and speaking of respecting the classics, what do you have against the classic disneys anyway?

ooh, speaking of calvin and hobbes, i was at barnes and nobles, dangerous place to be for me, you too i'm sure. they had great sales on 2 books i didn't have, but i'm on a budget so i resisted but i wasn't on a time budget so i sneaked a peak at the pages. well, depends on your definition of a peak

David Wagner said...

5 more points for Grace, and an additional 2 C&H points for the extended peek-sneaking...

Wow Dave a little point happy are we? You are just giving away free points left and right. Anyway, yeah, not that different with a buzz. Does make your eyes look bigger/ more noticeable though. Maybe it would be more drastic if you went bald and shaved your facial hair. Whoa, now that would be crazy.

Yay for you Dave! Emotionally resolved walks are the best!

3 "point-happy" points for Shannon!
