You're Not Going To Lose the House... Everybody Has Three Mortgages Nowadays...

Greetings, y'all! It is I, your local Road's Scholar! BUAHAHAH!!! I'm so flippin' funny!

Uh... you know, "Rhodes Scholar"... and I'm on a road trip... you know, like I've been driving all day, that sort of thing...

O, nevermind! Sheesh!

Gonna post in two parts tonight. Post a quickie now that I have a chance, cuz I might not get a chance later. If I do, I'll post more, since I am a man of many words... of course, most of my words are nonsense, but still, I'd like to think every now and then I sneak in something worth reading. Words, words, words. I'm going to hold off on awarding myself points for yesterday's unidentified movie quotes until later... still six hours (or so) to guess!

Had a good drive out to Alb. A pleasant, fun ride, very smooth, thanks to the nice car we are tooling around in. I'm not dying! I am... at peace. Usually, wifey insists on driving the whole time, since she's a heck-cat behind the wheel and I drive like a gramma. But she was tired (she has her "monthly visitor" *cough cough* at the moment, so she tires easily). So I got to drive! "Got the ol' cruise control set at 35." She slept a lot, so she didn't care how grandma-esque I drove. I get a little overly-careful when I realize all my treasures are in the car with me. If I was responsible for any harm coming to them, I'd never forgive myself.

We passed dozens of crosses at the side of the road as we trundled along. Never fails to get me. Every cross is a story, every cross represents at least one thoroughly broken heart. I can't bear the thought of having to put up a cross (or more) on the side of the road somewhere for one of my kids because of my less-than-vigilant driving. So I err on the side of caution, much to my wife's chagrin.

I wrote a play a bunch of years back called "Filling In The Blanks" along a similar vein. It's basically a two-actor play that takes place in a cemetary. The idea is that each headstone represents a whole book-worthy life, and these guys (for reasons that are not disrespectful) are acting out who they think the deceased people around them were, using just the info on the headstone, and filling in the rest of the blanks. It's serious, but also with lots of comedy.

Meh, you had to be there. I've always wanted to act it with someone else, but it's never really gone anywhere. Besides, I need to rewrite the ending.

Funny Picture Time:

That chicken is history. Run, Forrest, run!

I suppose you might be wondering why I picked a picture of a cactus for the top of the post. Maggie slept with wifey and I in our hotel bed last night. Back home, she'll occasionally do that thing toddlers do, where they wake up in the night and say they are scared because there are monsters in the room. Well, last night in the hotel, she woke up several times, saying she was scared because there was a cactus in the room. I kid you not. We assured her each time that there was not, in fact, a cactus in the room, and that all was well. In the morning, she was so happy. "Dad! The cactus is gone!"

Kids these days... they just don't get scared like they used to!

I'm going to end Part One for now. Dinner has arrived. I'll try to hop on and post more later.

Until then, to be continued...

Part Two. Man, Dave, why does everything have to be about #2 with you! Sicko!

It's cold here tonight! What the heck! Of course, "cold" is relative... remember, I'm from San Diego, so to me, anything below 70 is cold... farenheit, not celsius, silly!

We checked into our new lodging - not bad. Usually in the place we're at on the military base, they make you sign a form saying there will be no kids at all... but with the "family" housing all being remodeled, they relaxed that rule, so we can keep Daughters #2 and #3 with us, which is a relief. Otherwise, they'd lock me in the brig. I can't do time, man... I can't go back inside... I can't handle prison life. Guess I should make a break for Mexico while I have the chance! For the next two weeks, I'm not gonna think about anything except the eternal struggle between man and the fish...

Todayve In History: May 17
--------------------------------
- May 17, 1792: The New York Stock Exchange is formed. (Before that, the "stock market" was where they sold sides of beef.)

- May 17, 1875: Aristides wins the first Kentucky Derby. (A horse in a hat... now I've seen everything...)

- May 17, 1955: Bill Paxton is born! (And Joseph rejoices!)

To celebrate Bill Paxton's 54th birthday, I present to you, the Gunfight at the OK Corral scene from Tombstone...

The kids are all playing Mario Kart on the Wii right now, and it is INSANELY LOUD!!!!! :O AAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I've never been a fan of the Wii. The novelty wore off almost immediately with me. A few games of bowling and tennis, and I had had enough, long ago. I don't get the craze. Bunch of wiitards, if you ask me...

Well, I guess I'll head out. I get 4 points for the two movie quotes that slipped through from yesterday. The "Brotherly Love" quote was from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and the "until tomorrow" quote about the earrings was from Breakfast At Tiffany's. Good luck with tonight's quotes...

Until tomorrow, remember, I told you when we hooked up, baby, that you were going to have to share me with all the bad people and all the ugly events on this planet.

Wow, that picture of the tigers is awesome. Speaking of the pictures; Where do you get the ones you put at the top of your blog everyday? Just off the internet or something? Did you do something to make her think cactus's are bad? lol . I love kids they make life so much more interesting.

Words, words, words... Hamlet?

I'm glad you let me borrow Mel Gibson's Hamlet. I sound so smart when I can quote Shakespeare.

Glad to hear you are safe and sound. Going to Mass tomorrow? Tell Mother Mary I said hello.

I appreciate your updating even on the road. It's so selfless of you.

Saw Star Trek again. That's two more times than you have. You should see it eventually.

As always, keep up the good work.

Avari: I get the pics at the tops of each post from a site called photosig.com. Cool site. Some real gems mixed in with the chaff.

5 points for Abbie for the Forrest Gump, 5 for Joseph for the Hamlet quote and 5 for Bob... 4 more quotes up for grabs!

Joe, I think we're going to see Star Trek while we're out here.

Onward and upward!
