Curiouser and Curiouser

"Going up" or "Growing up", which one?

Drifting... drifting... Ah, so many methods of escape, which should I do tonight, into the wee hours? That is the question! At least, I think that's the question... it could be something else. Like Can you make us laugh? Can you make us cry? Can you make us want to break out in joyous singing?

Almost done with the Lies of Locke Lamora. It's building to a solid, though somewhat conveniently crafted, conclusion. I'll roll seamlessly into book 2, no doubt. That one is called Red Seas Under Red Skies. Beyond that, who knows what I'll read? Perhaps I'll re-read Isaiah yet again! Always get something new to chew on when I read Isaiah. I see you are open for business... so let's go to church!

Been dividing my game time between Battlefield 2 (of course) and Mahjong. BF2 has a tendency to frustrate me more often than not lately, so I've been playing Mahjong Tiles more and more - it's the version that comes bundled with Windows Vista, by the way. You know, in case you were madly curious about which version of Mahjong I was playing. See, it's juicy little tidbits of info like that that keep you all reading this blog. I am 98.92% towards my next BF2 rank, though... maybe 10 more rounds and I'll be there! What then? Heck, I don't know! Post a screenshot, pretend you are all proud of me for such a vacuous accomplishment, and then work on the next rank after that!

Can you say "futility"? I knew you could! Well, to tell you the truth, I lied a little...

OK, here's a funny Cyanide & Happiness comic...
Todayve in History: July 1
-----------------------------------
- July 1, 1862: The Russian State Library is founded. (In Soviet Union, the books check out you!)

- July 1, 1863: The Civil War Battle of Gettysburg begins. (Like a giant game of Red Rover, but with guns!)

- July 1, 1870: The US Department of Justice formally comes into existence. (The first order of business was to break for lunch.)

- July 1, 1908: SOS is adopted as the international Distress signal. (Before that, it was "Help!")

- July 1, 1968: The CIA's Phoenix Program is officially established. (I lived in Phoenix for a year! I was probably under surveillance the whole time!)

- July 1, 1979: Sony introduces the Walkman. (It's a mystical bond between man and machine.)

Birthdays for July 1 include: Princess Diana, Carl Lewis, Dan Aykroyd and Liv Tyler. In honor of Dan Aykroyd's birthday, here is the trailer for the original Ghostbusters (1984):

I think that film is one of those movies that is better in the remembrance than in the watching. It certainly has it's funny moments, but it also has its fair share of nonsense. Hey, sometimes nonsense hits the spot, eh?

I'm done. You see the padre on your way out, he'll punch your ticket. Jordan fades back, swoosh! And that's the game! Nothing further, your honor...

ghostbusters is better remembered than watched for sure. i have no fond memories of it nor do i enjoy watching it, but i am sure that those of you who do have fond memories have embellished them quite a bit

have you ever played the scene it games? you probably stomped them, at least the movie, music or tv versions

Not-so-interesting bit of trivia: "Curiouser and Curiouser" was the title of one of my stories I wrote in high school English. We were given various quotes to write on. Anyway...

I love Mahjongg. I have a bought version though, so not sure what the Vista one is like (even though I have Vista...duh!). I guess I should look for it. Anyway...mine comes with a stunning variety of layouts and tiles. I particularly like the psychedelic tiles that make you wish you were blind after a couple of minutes. It's the challenge, you know...

BTW...Feeling bard-like, Dave?

"That is the question" comes from Hamlet.

"I see you are open for business... so let's go to church!" comes from Shakespeare in Love.

And,

"Can you make us laugh? Can you make us cry? Can you make us want to break out in joyous singing?" comes from Barton Fink.

As long as my posts are, I should make blogs out of them! Sorry.

Kingdoms of men grow deaf from prophecies of destruction. The horde has gathered out of their thirst for blood. The forest whispers eternal secrets of knowledge and warning. The sky churns while the earth tremors in anticipation.

Drums of war have sounded, once again.

Who can stand in the presence of the Mountain King Avatar? Who can predict the Archmage? What darkness will not be made visible under Uther's hammer of justice? All the might of the scourge could not so much as lay a brittle finger on my Castle. What then can you and your allies hope to accomplish? I fight in the name of the Light. I will destroy all my foes and plunder the inhabitants of their land.

You are not prepared.

Lan party is brewing... Make yourself ready, Dave. I've mastered three heroes. Muster up your courage and bring me a battle that will be remembered for months to come.

May the Light be with you.

5 points for Grace, and 15 each for Havah and Bob!

But it's not enough to change June's Outcome... drumroll please...

June Winner is Shannon! Excellent work! I shall make a sufficiently big deal about it in tonight's post.

Vye - the LAN party is brewing? That, my friend, is the best news I've had in a long time. By all means, keeps me informed.

Havah, the Vista version of Mahjong is nice, but nothing too special or elaborate. Still, it hits the spot. Wish it had more than 6 different layouts, though...

congrats shannon.. i ran out of june days to beat you :P

I have Mahjong 4, but it's probably outdated now. It has tons of layouts and tile sets and backgrounds, as well as the ability to play two players. You also have variations of the classic mahjong: rivers, click, and another whose name I cannot remember. :D

congrats shannon on winning for june, maybe now you can take a break and give the rest of us a chance (hint, hint) :-)

what the heck? when i read your blog last night it didn't have all those quotes in it? and it ended differently than it does now. it said "i'm done" no ending quotes. how come all that stuff appeared after i read it?

Last night, as I was writing the post and wifey came in and wanted/needed to argue "end of the world" style for a while. Needless to say, I was not in the mood to continue the post as planned after that, so I just said "I'm done".

Later, after I calmed down, I came back and added the quotes, etc. Sorry for the confusion.

Sounds like you need to get to lvl 6 so you can TP.

:-O

Oh that's why I didn't find any quotes. I read the whole thing right after you posted. Oh well I still won :).
Bob- Yeah, you were catching up again.

I probably won't have time to play the game as dedicatedly this next round. So, yeah, have at it Grace.
