I'm Leaving You - and I'm Taking the Monkey With Me!
250th post! W00t! If it wasn't for camp, I'd have blogged every day of the year so far! Aw, snap! I need to do the camp slide show! Man, thanks for reminding me...
Man, so many little things to talk about today! Where do I start?
Beat World of Goo today. Great game. Has great replay value too, so I'm sure I'll tinker with it until I get bored with it, then I'll forget that it exists... as is my custom. Remember the skateboard graphic wallpapers? Dead. Good thing I got a few of them done when I did. Gads, I wish I wasn't that way... I loved doing my webcomic when the fire was there... that too is now languishing, reeking of unfulfilled potential. What is wrong with me! I'll give you 10 bonus points in the Quote contest if you can tell me what's wrong with me... (The guy's nuttier than a squirrel turd!)
I think I'm up to 6 losses at Facebook Scrabble now. Havah and Cathy both really give me a hard go of it now. A few more losses and I'm hitting the bottle...
Funny Comic Time! An exercise in absurdity, from White Ninja...
It's so absurd, even the color of his tie betrays him! I know not everyone digs that type of humor, but I certainly do. Seeing brownies always reminds me of a prank video I saw once, where these college guys made laxative-laced brownies for their roommate, and gave him a couple of them in the morning, on the day he was to take a big final exam. Let's just say he was a little too preoccupied to focus on the test... his friends sure had a laugh. I guess it's one of those things that's funny when it happens to someone else.
Example: We grilled up some burgers and dogs today, and were sitting around the table, eating together, when our attention kept being drawn to a fly that was buzzing around. Wifey had a rolled up Penny Saver and was keeping an eye on it. Well, of course, the fly lands on Eldest Daughter's head, and WHACK! Wifey got the fly, and we all had a good-natured chuckle about it. A few minutes later, a second fly lands on Eldest's head and wifey did it again, but missed the fly this time... because she swung too softly... she felt bad about whacking Eldest the first time, so she held back on the swat... but apparently not bad enough to prevent her from whacking her again...
Funny Video Time!
Yeah, I'm all about the animals today... I got two dog clips for you...
Half dog, half turtle. Someone help that poor thing flip over! And here's another crazy one...
Of all the things to teach a dog... who on earth would think to teach it to play pool? Wild.
Link of the Day: Daily Dose of Imagery
A no frills, plain jane site... but it posts a single, nice, relatively high-res photo every day, and you can scroll through the archives. It's a nice quick-hit site if you like looking at photos. I saw you eyeballing me... all up in my goodies! If you click the cloud pic, it will take you to the site.
I read a couple days ago about Dual-Screen Laptop computers that will be coming out in the next few months. I thought it was kind of an odd invention. Here's the pic:
You think your laptop battery drains fast now, just wait until it has to power a second monitor! Plus, it must need a pretty killer video card as well. The cool thing about the design is that the screens slide together, one behind the other, and when it folds up, it looks like a standard laptop. What will they think of next!
And lastly, it's almost September 11. That means I'll be doing my traditional annual viewing of the 9/11 documentary that the Naudet brothers made, which is a remarkable story, in and of itself. I'm sure you've seen it by now - the two French brothers who were in NYC making a documentary that followed a new fireman recruit through his training and first year... the new recruit just happened to join up with the firehouse a few blocks up from the Towers... and on *that day* they were on hand, getting unbelievable on-the-scene footage of the entire disaster as it transpired. Watching the doc is really emotional, as you can imagine, even for someone like me that wasn't there. In any case, I watch it every year, just to marvel at it all.
So that's that for my barrel full of random thoughts for today. I'm sure there was more I wanted to talk about - if I remember it, I'll add it to the Director's Cut of tonight's post, over at Wagnervana. Thanks again to all who leave comments, especially those that leave a comment on every post I make. I realize there are a thousand other things you could be doing... that you take time to read and comment so regularly is awesome, and it makes me feel like I'm doing something worthwhile here...
Until tomorrow, remember, sand is overrated. It's just tiny, little rocks.

I'm the same way, Dave. Frustrating as he...you know what I mean! BUT at least you've kept your blog going. As for why...umm...Reason in other place. (I have to split them, you know)
Aww...poor puppy! I admit, I laughed. But I was sad too. Poor little thing. Ugh...I'm such a girl!
Pool dog is awesome! If I had a pool table, and I was capable of training a dog to do more than sit, I'd train my dog to play pool. Better than Fetch any day! :D
Oh, I love that site! I wish I'd known about it when I was teaching poetry. Better than plain old journal entries every day!
Interesting monitor! When my virtual pool ball falls off the table, I guess it lands on the other monitor.
Actually, I've never seen or heard of that documentary. I'll look it up.
Off to Wagnervana! :)
I might have to try "There was a fly on your head" the next time I'm at the dinner table with my family...LOL!Great Stuff.
That poor puppy, but he was the cutest thing!
My brothers and Dad would love to have a dog that could play pool, how cool!
Crazy looking computer, cool.
Never seen that Documentary either.
All the Best
I've not seen the documentary, either. But I do have my own archival footage of 9/11 saved. I came home from school and immediately put in a VHS tape in the VCR and hit REC and let the baby run for 6 hours or so. I've never braved watching it again, but I know I have it there if I want to. (Yes, I still have a VCR that works. Yes, it's one of those TV-VCR combos like the one I won at prom.)
That poor dog!! I laughed so hard, my coworkers had to come over to see what was so funny. Then we all had to watch the dog playing pool, because that's just awesomeness.
I also haven't seen the 9/11 documentary yet. I will have to check that out at home.
Also-I love your random thoughts! Keep on being random :)
Hey Dave! Good job, 250!! Thats a ton of posts!! I've read... almost all of them. My computer didn't really want to go back in your archives, so I don't think I was able to read January :( Oh well...
YES! Don't forget the camp slide show :)
title = The Majestic (Jim Carrey in a serious role, I liked that movie)
It's so absurd, even the color of his tie betrays him = The Number 23
I saw you eyeballing me... all up in my goodies = Fun with Dick and Jane
I can't believe y'all have never seen that doc!!! OMG, I'll have to post some clips, but really, you need to track it down and watch it. Man, I should buy all of you a copy... if you've seen anything on 9-11, I guarantee some of it was filmed by those two French dudes. In fact, that iconic shot of the camera filming the firemen testing for a gas leak, and then panning up to catch the first plane slamming into the tower, that's from that doc. The only (decent) footage of the first plane hitting.
15 points for Abbie! And 10 points for Havah, for attempting to answer what's wrong with me, lol. She put her guess over at Wagnervana. Probably pretty true...
Havah: you taught poetry!? O_O
Congrats on your 250th post -wtg!
I've seen the doc and it's a good one. Seems everything is different now (post 9/11) - or maybe that's just me.
I meant when I taught poetry in class. I taught HS English (Lit & Comp), remember? :)
And of course it's true. Duh! :p

There we go! 5 more points for Havah the Great!
