Stomping Grounds, Accent on the Stomping...

Greetings, eh. Back from camp; back into the real world. 5 days away from civilization, in extreme isolation... of course, that's not the full truth. I had my iPad, which proved to be very useful in distracting myself from the compounded weight of the camp sub-plot that involved me. And I had my cell phone, and laptop... about the only aspect of civilization that I lacked was Starbucks, so really, it wasn't much different from my normal routine...

Camp was a positive experience. I alternately filmed and napped.  A highlight was, of course, setting the camera aside and tromping around the paintball course, though I only have two and a half battle wounds to show for it. It was only 5v5, among which were a couple timid squatters, so the action was unfortunately rather light. Sounds semi-masochistic, but I wanted to get pummeled. There's something indescribably satisfying about strolling up on a crouching teammate who's hunkered behind a barricade, walking full upright and steady up to his position, in full view, with poorly-aimed paintballs flying around me, while I ask "where is he?" about the enemy, and then moving forward inexorably, firing at (and pinning down) the enemy gunmen as I methodically close the distance, to destroy them, flush them out, or get pummeled in the attempt. I simply cannot hide, or stop moving. Just stomp forward, onward, moving, shooting, slowly, relentlessly... I savor it.

And now, as much as I would love to shift this line of thought skillfully into a personal parallel and elaborate upon the far more important battle I waged (and still wage) inside, I will instead, with great restraint, leave it at that.

Camp is over for the year. Now all that remains is steeling myself for the hours that will need to go into this year's camp video.

Too bad I didn't have one of these cameras with me...

That's kind of creepy, actually. Creepy-cool. Has kind of a sci-fi feel to it, in my opinion... like that machine in Bladerunner that could examine a photo, moving around in the background of the pic, zooming WAY in, around corners, to reveal what was unseen in the original picture...

Now THAT is funny...

Lemme see, what else do I have saved up here to show you?

Three guesses as to what the caption to this picture should be...

I'm not really feeling it tonight. I've run out of steam. Let me regroup and hit up a new post after the weekend. Just wanted to hop on and check in, really.

Greetings, Dave the Moot and ...

Well, blast!

For 6 months now I've been checking on a static bookmark of your last 2010 post, thinking it to be the last update.
Therefore having no idea you started blogging regularly again.

What is it with my internet life really, always arriving just in time to realise I missed out on the good stuff?
Honestly!

Cripes, I've got a lot of catching up to do ...

Dry! I wondered where you'd run off to...

Thanks for dropping in again. Not much mystery to what you've missed... more of the same. Goofy pics and vids, a few book reviews, all expertly interwoven with my trademark whining and pseudo-angst. Meh, same-old same-old... :) Not as many Pooter videos as I'd have liked... but Jack is doing other (less funny) prank vids now...

Update that bookmark!

Uh Oh, you're back! Now I must make my next move in Scrabble. I wish I could blame it on my taxing job, travel, heat, or something...but I'm dragging my feet because I'm losing so badly this time!

While at the beach with the church gang Saturday, my camera was soaked - I wonder if I should wait for that new camera? They said it was priced for the consumer - does that mean rich consumer or Home Depot employee consumer? Anyway, digital photography is awesome in many ways, but the way it makes the people in front abnormally large compared to those further away is a negative feature. On the upside, I like the fact that you can fix blurry pics because on the old style cameras my vision was not good enough to adjust for perfection.
Hopefully one of your faithful followers can give us a review when it comes out.

Just bought the Martin series - looking forward to it. Really enjoyed the Hillenbrand book, "Unbroken," highly recommend it to you because of your WWII interests.

So I found this website, see, and you're the first person that came to mind. It's right up your alley, if you'll pardon the cliche. Check it here. Netflix doodles. Cool stuff.

Beth: How about if I just keep swapping letters until you catch up? :D You can't win all of them! I get to win once in a while, don't I? I wish I could track the stats of the games we've played... I bet I win less than one in 10... Enjoy the Martin series... I hope you're not squeamish...

Logan: Now that is a cool site! Honestly, I've never even considered doodling on the Netflix envelopes before sending them back... I may have to start! Looks like fun.
